Treasure Trekkers: Alan Cumming and Tara Strong Star in New Fantasy Movie

If you are looking for your next family-friendly obsession, Treasure Trekkers officially lands in theaters today. This new fantasy movie expands on the beloved 2019 television series, bringing a vibrant, magical world to the big screen with an all-star voice cast that includes Alan Cumming and Tara Strong.

The World of Treasure Trekkers Explained

Directed by Kevin Munroe—known for his work on TMNT and Ratchet & Clank—the film follows the journey of Mip, a 12-year-old monkey searching for his true identity. Raised in a society strictly divided between cats and rodents, Mip struggles to fit in until an ancient map transports him to Empathra, an enchanted land currently suffering under a cold, authoritarian regime.

The film shifts the traditional “hero’s journey” narrative by focusing on the power of emotional intelligence. Mip discovers that his unique ability to influence emotions acts as a secret weapon against the oppressive rule of King Clarence, voiced by Alan Cumming. Instead of relying purely on combat, the film explores how empathy can serve as a catalyst for change.

Meet the Voice Cast and Creative Team

The production boasts a stellar lineup of industry veterans both behind the microphone and the camera. In addition to Cumming and Strong, the film features performances from:

Greg Cipes
Meredith Bull
Jack McBrayer

The screenplay was penned by Kevin Munroe in collaboration with series creators Balthazar and Thierry Marchand. Produced by the Canadian animation studio Squeeze Productions alongside Goodfellas, the movie successfully translates the television show’s charm into a feature-length cinematic adventure.

Why This Movie Matters

The film stands out by highlighting that our differences, often seen as obstacles, can be our greatest strengths when navigating complex worlds.

For fans of the original series, this feature film serves as a massive expansion of the lore. By pitting a young hero against a ruler who explicitly wants to remove emotion from his kingdom, Treasure Trekkers provides a thought-provoking backdrop for its swashbuckling quest. Whether you are a fan of high-fantasy animation or just looking for a solid adventure for the weekend, this is one journey worth tracking down in theaters.
