MrBeast has overhauled his MrBeast Lab animated series by hiring veteran writers from South Park and Bob's Burgers, resulting in a much better-received second season.
The MrBeast Lab animated series is officially back on YouTube, and this time, the production has received a massive creative upgrade. After facing significant backlash during its initial launch, the project has pivoted toward professional storytelling by bringing in heavy hitters from the world of adult animation and bringing a cinematic touch to the digital landscape.
The most significant change to the series is the injection of industry-proven talent. To move away from the criticism that the show felt like a glorified commercial, the team recruited writers with resumes that include heavyweights like South Park and Bob’s Burgers. The writers’ room now boasts names such as Jameel Saleem, Lillian Yu, Conor Hanney, Charley Feldman, and Daniel Kibblesmith.
Beyond the writing staff, the production value has been bolstered by the addition of veteran voice actor Fred Tatasciore, best known for his 15-year tenure as the voice of the Hulk in the Marvel Universe. This influx of talent is part of a larger, $7 million investment in the second season, which aims to bring the series closer to the standards of professional commercial animation.
The first outing of the series was marred by controversy and fan disappointment. Beyond the internal issues regarding team members, viewers largely criticized the show for prioritizing toy sales over actual narrative development. The transition from ten three-minute shorts to a 100-minute, eight-episode block indicates a shift toward a more substantial viewing experience.
By investing $7 million—a figure comparable to a full season of traditional TV animation—MrBeast is signaling a desire to compete with traditional media studios. The smoother reception of this second batch suggests that audiences are willing to engage with creator-led projects when they see a commitment to quality over mere brand placement. The project now serves as an interesting case study on how a creator can pivot after a rough start, utilizing professional industry writers to salvage and elevate a brand-based narrative.
