James Gunn Reacts to the Funniest Lanterns Finale Fan Theory
DC Studios head James Gunn has weighed in on a fan-made joke regarding the Lanterns finale, showing his appreciation for the humor surrounding the show.
DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has proven once again that he keeps a close eye on the pulse of the fandom, especially when it comes to the Lanterns finale. Following the conclusion of the hit HBO series, Gunn took to social media to acknowledge a hilarious bit of wordplay involving one of the show’s lead characters.
The Joke Behind the Lanterns Finale Buzz
The humor stems from a playful confusion between two icons sharing the same name. A fan on Instagram Threads posted: My biggest issue with the LANTERNS finale is that they never show us how John Stewart got the DAILY SHOW gig. The joke cleverly bridges the gap between the legendary Green Lantern John Stewart and the famous political satirist Jon Stewart.
Gunn, known for his active and often humorous presence on social media, responded to the post with a single laughing emoji. It was a brief but clear sign that the DC boss enjoyed the clever, lighthearted jab at the character’s moniker.
A Successful First Season for Lanterns
Beyond the internet memes, the Lanterns finale marked the end of a critically acclaimed eight-episode run. The series, which premiered in August and concluded in October, offered a grounded mystery set in Rushville, Nebraska. The show features a stellar cast bringing the DC mythos to life:
- Kyle Chandler as the seasoned Hal Jordan
- Aaron Pierre as the determined John Stewart
- Kelly Macdonald as Kerry Kane
- Ulrich Thomsen as the iconic Thaal Sinestro
The project, spearheaded by showrunner Chris Mundy, has resonated well with critics. Currently, the series boasts a 91 percent critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, signaling a strong start for this corner of the DC Universe.
What the Future Holds
While the mystery of how John Stewart handles both intergalactic police duties and a late-night talk show remains firmly in the realm of comedy, the series itself has established a solid foundation for the future. Fans are clearly still buzzing about the show’s conclusion, and seeing the creator engage with the community’s humor reinforces the collaborative spirit of the new DC Studios era.
