The Demon's Souls Remake has officially broken its 60 FPS console lock, reaching 120 FPS on PC thanks to new strides in PlayStation 5 emulation technology.
The walls surrounding PlayStation 5 exclusivity are looking a little more porous today. A significant breakthrough in Demon’s Souls Remake PC emulation has surfaced, allowing the visually stunning title to bypass its native 60 FPS cap and hit a fluid 120 FPS. While the game remains officially locked to Sony’s hardware, tech enthusiasts have utilized the unofficial KytyPS5 translation layer to bridge the gap between console software and high-end PC components.
The impressive performance feat was recently demonstrated by YouTuber Geralt Benchmarks, using a high-octane rig featuring an RTX 5070 and an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D. By leveraging DLSS 3 frame generation, the emulator pushes the game well beyond the limitations of the PlayStation 5’s performance mode.
While seeing a current-gen console exclusive running at double the frame rate is technically awe-inspiring, it isn’t quite the polished experience you would expect from a native port. The current state of Demon’s Souls Remake PC emulation comes with some technical caveats that early adopters should keep in mind:
The emulated version is functional but currently suffers from noticeable hitching and stuttering, proving that we are still in the early stages of PS5 software translation.
Despite these hiccups, the achievement signals a massive leap forward for the emulation community. The PS5 is still a relatively young console, and achieving this level of performance—while occasionally hitting 70+ FPS even without frame generation—is a testament to the sheer power of modern PC hardware and the dedication of developers working on these translation layers.
The rise of these emulation efforts highlights a growing trend: as official PC ports remain inconsistent, the emulation scene is accelerating its pace. While Sony’s hardware continues to be the only official way to experience Bluepoint Games’ masterpiece, the pressure on Sony to bring more titles to the PC platform is only mounting.
For now, the PlayStation 5 remains the standard for stability and ease of access. However, as translation layers like KytyPS5 continue to mature, the barrier between console-locked titles and the enthusiast PC community is shrinking faster than anyone predicted.
