House House has clarified that the hit co-op game Big Walk will remain absent from Xbox consoles as part of a principled stance regarding BDS boycott targets.
For fans of the breakout co-op sensation Big Walk, there is a clear divide in accessibility. While millions of PC players have already dove into what is arguably the most engaging multiplayer experience of the year, Xbox owners are left waiting—and according to developer House House, that wait may never end. The studio has officially confirmed that Big Walk on Xbox is not currently in the cards, citing a specific political commitment as the driving force behind this decision.
House House has been transparent about its position, noting that the choice to skip the Xbox platform runs directly counter to their desire for the game to be played by as many friends as possible. However, the studio maintains that the decision is rooted in a commitment to collective action. The team stated that the game will not arrive on the console not until Microsoft and/or Xbox have been removed as BDS boycott targets.
The BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) movement is a Palestinian-led initiative that aims to pressure organizations and governments to comply with international law. In this instance, the developer is focusing its concerns on Microsoft’s operational ties to the Israeli military, specifically citing reports of Microsoft providing customized Azure cloud services for data storage related to military telecommunications in Gaza and the West Bank.
This is a rare instance of a studio explicitly linking its platform release strategy to specific geopolitical advocacy. House House expressed that they recognize the disappointment this causes players who simply want to enjoy the game with friends on their preferred hardware. Despite this, the developer emphasized the following points regarding their stance:
We have made this decision with the belief that meaningful change can be made in the world, and that one day, Palestine will be free. – House House
While this decision effectively restricts the game’s reach, it highlights a growing trend of independent developers using their platforms to take a public stand on global issues. For now, Big Walk remains a PC-exclusive experience, and players looking for the title on Microsoft’s console are unlikely to find it in the near future.
