Ubisoft’s Steam Release of Heroes of Might & Magic 3 Mysteriously Lacks… The Actual Game

In what might be one of the most baffling digital distribution bloopers in recent memory, Ubisoft recently decided to finally bring the beloved, complete edition of Heroes of Might & Magic 3 to Steam. For years, PC strategy enthusiasts had to make do with a rather barebones 2015 HD remaster that completely omitted the classic expansions and the indispensable random map generator, driving purists straight to GOG. Naturally, the prospect of having the definitive version of this fantasy strategy masterpiece readily available on Valve’s storefront felt like an absolute slam dunk for the publisher. Unfortunately, somebody in Paris apparently forgot a rather crucial step in the publishing pipeline: actually including the game files.

Eager fans rushing to fork over their ten bucks for a nostalgic dopamine hit were greeted by an astonishingly lightweight 23.49 KB download. Naturally, attempting to boot up the title resulted in an immediate dummy executable error message, leaving a trail of baffled players and a plummeting 80% negative user review rating in its wake. It is a delightfully ironic blunder that turns buying a legendary strategy epic into an impromptu exercise in digital ghost-hunting. While this glaring oversight will undoubtedly be ironed out once the morning espresso kicks in across Ubisoft’s offices, it serves as another amusing reminder that sometimes the biggest boss fight a gamer faces is simply getting the launcher to acknowledge the existence of the software.
