HBO Max has locked in the streaming release date for DC Studios' Supergirl, bringing Milly Alcock's performance to the small screen this September.
If you missed the theatrical run of the latest DC Universe installment, the Supergirl HBO Max streaming release date is officially on the calendar. HBO Max has confirmed that the film will make its digital debut on Thursday, September 10, 2026, just over two months after its initial arrival in cinemas.
Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film marks a significant entry in James Gunn’s DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. For those watching at home, the platform will also offer an American Sign Language (ASL) version of the movie, performed by Catalene Sacchetti, debuting simultaneously with the standard version. Fans can also catch a linear broadcast on HBO starting Saturday, September 12, at 8 p.m. ET.
The film follows Kara Zor-El as she navigates a cosmic journey of revenge, centered on the fate of her loyal companion, Krypto.
The transition to streaming comes after a challenging theatrical window. Despite being a high-profile entry in the new DCU, Supergirl struggled to capture the expected audience. With a production budget estimated between $170–186 million, the film grossed only $126.4 million worldwide. The movie faced a tough reception, including a notable 76% decline in box office numbers during its second weekend.
Despite the lukewarm theatrical reception, the DCU remains committed to the character:
Whether this streaming release will help build momentum for the sequel remains to be seen, but it provides a perfect opportunity for fans to decide for themselves if the Supergirl story deserves a second chance.
