Wizards of the Coast has appointed industry veteran Dan Ayoub as its new head, tasking the former Halo executive with navigating the future of Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons.
Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro Digital Games have officially appointed industry veteran Dan Ayoub as their new leader. Moving up from his role as senior vice president of digital games, Ayoub steps into the position formerly held by John Hight, becoming the first internal candidate to lead the division following a rigorous selection process.
Ayoub is no stranger to managing massive franchises. Before joining the team at Wizards, he served as a key executive producer and studio head at 343 Industries, the home of the Halo franchise. His resume also includes leadership roles at Certain Affinity, providing him with a deep understanding of both large-scale AAA development and co-development strategy.
As the new head, Ayoub will oversee a vast portfolio that includes:
Ayoub takes the helm during a pivotal moment for Hasbro. While the success of Baldur’s Gate 3 highlighted the massive potential of Dungeons & Dragons in the digital space, the company has faced significant hurdles in its gaming expansion. Earlier this year, Hasbro reported a $56 million non-cash impairment following the cancellation of several internal game projects.
I’m honored to lead Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro Digital Games. We’ll put fans first, respect the artists and creators who make these worlds come alive, and set an ambitious course for growth across tabletop and digital. – Dan Ayoub
The gaming industry will be watching closely to see how Ayoub balances the rich legacy of tabletop giants like Magic: The Gathering with the high-stakes demands of modern digital game development. His ability to streamline operations while respecting the creative roots of these iconic properties will be the defining challenge of his tenure.
