The visionary studio behind the critically acclaimed Moss VR series, Polyarc Games, has officially announced it is winding down operations after 12 years of industry innovation.
The VR gaming landscape has lost one of its most innovative voices. Polyarc Games, the celebrated studio responsible for the beloved Moss series, has announced it is officially shutting down. After 12 years of pushing the boundaries of virtual reality platforming, the team is saying its final farewells as they wind down active development.
Founded in 2015, Polyarc quickly became a beacon of creativity in an industry often obsessed with first-person shooters. Their debut, Moss, redefined how we think about VR by masterfully blending third-person action with immersive 3D puzzle-solving. By placing players in the dual role of a protector and a guide to the courageous mouse hero, Quill, Polyarc proved that virtual reality could offer profound emotional depth.
Despite their massive success with the Moss franchise, the studio struggled to maintain momentum in a volatile market. The challenges facing Polyarc Games were multifaceted, involving both market shifts and difficult financial hurdles:
Polyarc’s final contribution to the medium, Moss: The Forgotten Relic, was released in July 2025. Co-developed with Blackbird Interactive, the title serves as a compilation of the original two games, ensuring that the legacy of Quill remains accessible to new players even as the studio shutters. While the end of Polyarc marks a somber moment for VR enthusiasts, the technical and narrative breakthroughs the studio achieved will undoubtedly influence developers for years to come.
The studio’s impact on VR is undeniable, proving that with enough imagination, a small mouse can cast a very large shadow in the gaming world.
