Welcome, Nephalem, to another deep dive from The Nerd Bureau! Sanctuary’s sprawling, demon-infested lands are full of challenges, and sometimes, those challenges aren’t just about slicing through hordes of hellspawn. Early in Diablo 4’s Lord of Hatred campaign, you’ll encounter a cunning little brain teaser known as Rathma’s Puzzle.
This particular enigma might be your first taste of Diablo 4’s more cerebral side, proving that even ARPG maestros need to flex their grey matter occasionally. Don’t worry, fellow adventurers; we’re here to guide you through this classic “choose three things in the right order” mystery without spilling major story beats.
You’ll stumble upon this puzzle during the main story quest, “A Blade’s Weight,” while fearlessly navigating the labyrinthine Archive of the Makers within Skovos. As you explore, a foreboding Rathmic Statue will loom into view, flanked by a series of altars.
Before this grim statue, you’ll find three altars upfront, and another trio further back, each topped with a skull. The key to unlocking this ancient secret lies with a Time-Worn Inscription tucked away to the right of the statue, whispering its cryptic message.
The inscription reads: “Power born of Hell begets Corruption.” This isn’t just lore flavor; it’s your direct instruction! Interact with the skull altars, and you’ll notice they helpfully translate these capitalized words into their esoteric names.
You’ll discover that “Power” is Dunaxys, “Hell” is Abythos, and “Corruption” is Coruphar. Armed with this crucial insight, the solution becomes elegantly simple. You merely need to activate the skulls in the exact order they appear in the inscription.
Here’s the precise sequence to follow:
* Activate Dunaxys (representing Power)
* Activate Abythos (representing Hell)
* Activate Coruphar (representing Corruption)
Once you’ve correctly initiated the sequence, a hidden passage will dramatically open in the wall, allowing you to seamlessly continue your quest. You and Lorath can then proceed deeper into the Temple of Light, one less demonic brain-teaser conquered!
Amplo Insights: While not the most complex puzzle in gaming history, Rathma’s puzzle offers a delightful, brief respite from the relentless combat of Diablo 4. It’s a neat nod to the ARPG genre’s occasional willingness to engage players on a different intellectual level, reminding us that Sanctuary holds more than just blood and guts. A fun little challenge before the next wave of hellish encounters!
