Summer Game Fest always delivers some bizarre reveals, but one upcoming sci-fi shooter is bending our minds with geometric mystery. Developer Dead Astronauts just unveiled Haex, and it is weird in the best way possible. While the shooting looks solid, the gaming community is completely obsessed with a mysterious glowing cube.
This is not your average desktop puzzle toy. The trailer shows the player slotting a runic, Rubik-like block into the ground, completely terraforming the surrounding forest into a brutalist alien structure. According to the developers, this cube is actually sentient and will even teach you how to double-jump.
Beyond the geometric companion, Haex is shaping up to be an ambitious 1-4 player co-op survival shooter. Players will need to manage harsh survival mechanics like temperature and starvation while exploring a hostile alien world. Your progression carries over across different game worlds, allowing you to jump into a friend’s lobby with your hard-earned gear.
Here is what we know about this mysterious sci-fi title so far:
We do not have a concrete release date yet, but the sci-fi mystery vibes are immaculate. It channels the same eerie energy that made Abiotic Factor a massive hit with survival fans recently. Keep this one on your Steam wishlist if you like your shooters with a side of cosmic weirdness.
The Nerd Bureau Take: Survival shooters are a dime a dozen, but Haex might have found the perfect hook with its reality-bending companion. Giving a puzzle box a personality is a brilliant way to stand out in a crowded market. We are ready to praise our new cuboid overlord whenever the release date finally drops.
