Bradley Cooper Cast as Duke in New G.I. Joe Movie Reboot

Paramount Pictures is officially moving forward with its ambitious G.I. Joe movie franchise reboot, and the studio has tapped Bradley Cooper to lead the charge as the iconic soldier, Duke. After years of speculation, this casting confirms that the studio is looking for high-caliber talent to spearhead its latest big-screen take on the beloved Hasbro property.

Danny McBride Takes the Helm for the New G.I. Joe Movie

The upcoming project is being directed by Danny McBride, best known for his work on HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones. McBride also co-wrote the script alongside frequent collaborators Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri. This creative team suggests a fresh, perhaps more stylized approach to the franchise compared to previous iterations. Bradley Cooper and McBride have a professional history together, having previously collaborated on an episode of The Righteous Gemstones, which likely fostered the creative trust needed for this massive franchise undertaking.

The Legacy of Duke in the G.I. Joe Universe

Duke is not just any character; he is the undisputed leader of the G.I. Joe team and a cornerstone of the Hasbro brand since the 1980s. His role is critical to the core conflict against Cobra, and he remains one of the most recognizable figures alongside Snake Eyes and Scarlett. Stepping into the boots of a character previously played by Channing Tatum in The Rise of Cobra and Retaliation is no small feat.
