A brave modder transformed GTA 5 into Pokémon Go, leading to bizarre encounters where iconic creatures roam the streets of Los Santos and occasionally get punched in the face.
Modding Grand Theft Auto V has long been a digital sandbox for pure, unadulterated chaos. While some developers spend their days trying to preemptively build a PC version of GTA 6 through sheer willpower and texture packs, others choose a darker, more whimsical path. Los Santos is notoriously a lonely concrete jungle, populated by sun-drenched sociopaths cruising empty highways without a single companion in the passenger seat. Recognizing this profound emptiness, one intrepid modder decided to fix the loneliness epidemic in San Andreas by introducing the most ambitious crossover gaming never asked for: Pokémon Go, but with assault rifles and motorbikes.
Installing the Pokémon Go GTA Edition completely upends the ecosystem of Rockstar’s masterpiece, replacing everyday NPC foot traffic with wandering pockets of classic pocket monsters. Cruising through the neon-lit streets on a motorbike as Trevor, players can suddenly find themselves hunting for Geodudes and Squirtles instead of rival gang members. Of course, the implementation comes with that classic, glitchy Grand Theft Auto charm. Trying to capture a Charmander doesn’t always end with a triumphant jingle and a successful catch; sometimes, the digital critters break free, reject the laws of Nintendo physics, and allegedly curse you out in thick regional accents before devolving into brutal street brawls. It turns out that a right hook to the snout is a surprisingly effective way to induce a faint, proving that the brutal reality of Los Santos waits for no fictional franchise.
